Volgens de Oscarjury zijn de beste acteurs ter wereld blank, allemaal

Wie dacht dat het in het linkse, politiekcorrecte Hollywood wel snor zat met diversiteit, wordt vandaag door de Oscarjury duidelijk met zijn neus op de feiten gedrukt. Maar liefst nul genomineerden voor het beste acteerwerk van 2015 hebben een kleurtje. En de vrouwen dan? Zo hoor ik u denken, die zijn toch met een enorme inhaalslag bezig? Niet wat betreft de nominaties voor beste regisseur, scenarist of cinematograaf in elk geval. Op die lijst prijken louter mannennamen.

Hoe kan dit anno 2015 nog gebeuren? Een mogelijke verklaring is de demografische samenstelling van de jury , beter bekend als ‘the Academy’. 94 procent van hen is blank, 76 procent is man en de gemiddelde leeftijd is 63 jaar.

Update:

In de VS is kritiek losgebarsten op de nominaties. Het wordt opmerkelijk gevonden dat de biopic over ds Martin Luther King weliswaar is genomineerd voor beste film maar dat noch de regisseur, noch de acteurs genomineerd zijn. Op Twitter is de hashtag #OscarsSoWhite in het geweer gebracht tegen de nominaties.
